During last weeks VUC call someone mentioned that there was a new service called UKDDI offering free DIDs in the UK. They offer ten free numbers from locations all around the UK, where each can be mapped to a SIP URI.
It took a couple of minutes for the utility of this to really sink in. [...]
Thanks to Engadget for pointing out Jabra’s latest product offerings for the uppity office dweller. OMG, these look nice! Most especially the DECT version pictured here.
As they so rightly point out, these are fairly over-the-top kinds of devices for most people. But remember that nothing succeeds like excess!
The real question in my mind is about [...]
Of all the things discussed at Pulver’s HDComms event in May the one thing that spurred everyone to agreement was the idea that wideband telephony needs much greater public visibility. To that end Mr Pulver proposed the formation of a trade group to be called HD Connect. This group would promote wideband telephony in various [...]
What with the gathering storm that is wideband telephony there’s a lot of rumbling about codecs going on at the moment. Such discussions usually include at least a couple of open source proponents wondering why Speex is not more widespread. It’s a very good question.
Speex most commonly shows up in soft phones. That’s nice, but [...]
Earlier today Michael White at E4 tweeted that he had just received his shipment of Gigaset SL78H handsets. The SL78H is the high-end handset that Gigaset is offering as an optional addition to the A580IP and S675IP basic SIP/DECT systems. I’ll be going into detail about it eventually, but not until after I’ve reviewed the two [...]

Doesn't "Astricon Widows" sound like the title of a Steely Dan song?

Hey,
It looks like I will be coming over to Astricon in October, which I'm
excited about, especially meeting any of you who will be coming. For
those who haven't met the Digium people, they're a lot of fun and
you'll learn about the whole side of things you haven't seen.
For those who are able to bring spouses (I am not, it's too far and

Hi,
I met Matt Florell at AMOOCON and tried to record an interview. I was
pleased with the results, but later found that the battery deleted the
audio file when it went dead. Today, we'll have Matt live to talk
about VICIDIAL and answer any questions you may have about it.

Nir Simionovich is about to become a father. He will be joining our
conference at 12 Noon EDT today from the Maternity Ward to talk about
Amazon EC2 cloud computing with Asterisk. Nir gave a very good
presentation on this at AMOOCON a few weeks ago (see

Hi,
Great call to test Skype yesterday! Thanks to Tim Panton for hooking that up.
Karl (I think it was Karl) asked me about how I got the Skype call to
my phone, the call that started the whole thing.
Actually, Tim and I had exchanged a few Twitter messages and he
finally gave up on sending 140 characters at a time and called my

Already Friday, the week went by in a Flash.
If you haven't yet registered for a free Sipgate DID, I suggest you go

Hi,
There was some delay in the updates on Talkshoe. I see that the new
versions are now uploaded. These are recorded at ZipDX.com and should
reflect the better quality of g722. Also included (for better or
worse) the IRC transcript.
FWIW, I also tried Adobe's new language transcription module that
comes with CS4. It's so far off, it's a joke so we won't be wasting
Hi,
Like me, some of you probably remember Jim as one of the pioneers
along with Leif and Jarod. These guys "wrote the book", literally. Jim
is our guest tomorrow and he'll be talking about system building,
among other things. We always have a good time AND get stuff done on
the Conference so come by and join us:
