TJ Stamm Just wanted to say hi

Hey everyone. I found my way over here from twitter. I am an avid asterisk / Linux user. I am also the co owner of a new SIP Trunking provider, we are just getting ready to launch the beta in the next week or so. To not sound to spamish I will not post the link :) I just wanted to take a moment to say hi to everyone and introduce myself. I hope to be able to contribute a little bit to this group! Continue

Fred Posner A2DDA Blocks Asterisk Parking Data

A few months back, I posted a nice little article on using Asterisk to get Parking Space Availability from Ann Arbor garages. The response from the VoIP community was fantastic! We received great comments and feedback from people like Jason Goecke, Dug Song, Dave Michels, Evan Cooke, and more! People not only responded, they even showed different ways of providing access to this information. And everyone shared their work in an open forum — truly a great example of open source coding inspiring i… Continue

Eric Erickson We (Safi Systems) just released the next beta of our server and workshop

After a couple months of work, we have released our third beta of both SafiWorkshop and SafiServer (visual callflow designer and standalone call control server). There are quite a few new features including an integrated prompt studio (with recording, importing, and editing), automatic prompt distribution (to all the Asterisk servers connected to the production SafiServer), timebase routing ActionStep, live Saflet (call flow) validation, and many overall improvements/bug fixes. More informatContinue

randulo/Zeeek End of year obligatory reflections

You will be spared these trite and trivial things because I've got a cold. I just need to test the blog RSS and all that so we can start really doing things with this site.

In the meantime, I can tell you that I created a Twitter account for our Google Group (aka Mailing Li… Continue

randulo/Zeeek Asterisk + Skype: unbeatable connectivity!

This is a red letter day in the history of asterisk connectivity. Digium has announced the beginning of a beta with the chan_skype module. I'm sure many will be able to give more details soon. For now, here's the Digium Press Release

randulo/Zeeek Retiring my Polycom IP500 for a new IP650

I received my new toy office tool several days ago and have been gradually adding parameters to the XML config files. Things like the 5 SIP providers I use, one per line plus our office pbx.

I am anxious to see if Michael Grave's prediction of me becoming a "Polycom fanboy" will come true.
Geekdom as deep as mine sometimes makes becoming a fan of a technology almost too easy. I just ordered the "productivity suite" and can't wait to see if the one feature I badly n… Continue

mike - IPID Looking for VoIP service providers..

Like a lot of businesses on here, I'm looking for solid VoIP providers not just to service our business in house but to offer our services through.

If you do offer Voice Services to your clients, I'd like to spend a few minutes with you and see if we can partner our services and form a mutually beneficial service.

thanks
Mike

Karl Fife An open suggestion for the VoIP Users Conference

Kudos to Randy for running the outstanding VOIP user's conference. I have an idea to toss into this public forum. I'm hoping that randy and others will consider it & give some feedback. The idea would be to begin each show with comments & corrections from the previous week's show. Sometimes when I listen to the previous week's archive, I find that there is misinformation that could be corrected, or even a 'dangling' question that nobody on the conference could answer. Someone particip

randulo/Zeeek Two Women on the call today!

Before the recording started, a woman called in to ask about the Talkshoe facilites for an international conference call. After the recording, iJustine joined us for a few minutes.

If you have no idea who iJustine is, you need to get out of the shop more often! She's a bright person who has not only figured out what's good about the Internet, but is doing it all.

randulo/Zeeek Siemens S675IP DECT SIP Phone

As Michael pointed out, Alan Lord published a good review of the S685IP. The phone was "unfortunately" too easily available here in France so I bought one at Amazon.fr. It is also available on Amazon UK. I'm quoting another post from Alan here:

"This caught me by surprise…

randulo/Zeeek Organized, sort of

I am chaotic by nature. As a musician, I love to improvise, it's my favorite part of performing. But now that I managed to double and triple book guests for the VoIP Users Conference at least twice, I had to settle down and return to the Google Calendar to fix an agenda. I have done so now and it should always appear at the top of http://food4wine.ning.com

May the force be with you!

randulo/Zeeek Asterisk Appliance, Day #4 -calls in and out, firmware update

I see it isn't really practical to post daily about this, mainly because I don't do things on the AA50 daily. However, with the help of Digium support (ABE and one year support is part of the price of the unit), I have a couple of local providers hooked up so I can now make and receive calls.

There is a lingering problem that I need to test more, the strange one-way audio for 10 seconds issue. I have an IAX hardphone hooked up to the AA50 LAN port and both providers are IAX, in fact the… Continue

randulo/Zeeek Asterisk Appliance Day #3: We have liftoff!

After messing around in a chaotic manner (people who know me won't be surprised) I arrived this morning, did a factory RESET via the GUI and started over. This may happen several times, but I want to detail the steps I go through each time I post and do something. The RESET I did was from the web interface, not the reset button on the back of the unit.

  1. Upon reset, the admin password is back to default. The AA50 is not currently connected to any network, but not wanting to let a

randulo/Zeeek Asterisk Appliance, Day #2

So far, no calls in or out.
The Asterisk appliance is not at all put together as I would have expected. (This is not necessarily a bad thing, but just a source of confusion to me). I was imagining an embedded system, which it is, but one that would just hang on a WAN connection. The appliance will grab an IP address for itself using DHCP, but then it has a built in router that assigns addresses in the 192.168.69.NN range.More on this and the beginning conContinue

randulo/Zeeek Asterisk Appliance, Day #1

Today I took delivery on a "voip-only" Asterisk Appliance, the S800i. In the next few weeks, I will be documenting my experience with this cute little box.

First, though, a funny thing happened to me at Astricon Paris, in June 2006. At the end of Mark Spencer's keynote speech, I stood up and asked, "Mark, why doesn't Digium make a little box with a server th… Continue

randulo/Zeeek What hosted service would you choose for a non technical friend?

get more and more requests from friends about this and I understand
their confusion. Take an honest look at the VoIP offers out there on
the web. If you didn't know how the technology works, you'd really
have to try every offer to see which one fit the best.

I just got a typical request from a friend. How would you answer this?
(You can "cheat" and talk about your own company if you do business in
this space, just say it's your company).

"I want
